UltraVNC just doesn't work for me yet.

Post by nroose »

People keep acting like this stuff is so great. I would love to have it be great and work. I guess I am just missing some assumed information.

I have a Windows 2000 server. I have a WinXP client.

I managed to connect correctly the first time. Since then I have gotten authorization failed or connection rejected. I didn't change anything to get this, but now I have changed a lot of things. I am using the latest version.

Sometimes it tells me wrong password, but I am quite certain that this is not true.

Can you tell me if the two machines need to be attached to a Windows Domain controller? If not, do their WorkGroup names need to be the same? What use does the password that is set on the Current User Properties window do? My client always gets a popup that asks for a UserName and Password. Are these the windows username and password? (I assume they are) Does that windows user need special privileges? (I assume it does not).

I am using port 17, and have enabled forwarding on my linksys router for ports 17, 5800, and 5900. Does this need to be done on the client side as well as the server side, or just the server side?

Sorry if this is all obvious to you. I have looked in the documentation, and I just can't get it to work.

On the server machine, click start, programs, ultravnc and then select Server, the set the password in both default settings and user settings and try it again.
