Viewer works from 1 computer but not another

Post by Gene »

I have UltraVCN server running on Windows98 computers in two different cities. From my Windows98 computer at work I can connect with the viewer to one city, but the other city only displays a black screen. There are routers at all locations, but router in front of the servers have port forwarding on 5900.

Now here is the twist. I can connect at home from an XP computer to either city and everthing works great on both servers. What's up with that?

The problem server is logged onto a NT workstation in the LAN. The problem server is running Filemaker Pro, to which local users are constantly connecting. There is no screensaver or power management on the problem server either.

SetupUltraVncRel100 is the version I have been using on all ends. I tried UltraVNC-100-RC18-Setup on the viewer end with the same results.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I would do a windows update on the win98 machine giving you the problem. Sounds like it's possibly behind in updates and is missing something. :|

It sound more like a network permission problem.

PC98 connect to A, so viewer is working
PCXP connect to B, so B server is working
PC98 does not connect to B.....have to be some network trouble.

You think you are correct.

But...PC98 does connect to A Server and C Server. All servers are setup the same from the router to the computers. I too, figure there must be a network issue between PC98 & B Server. Since everything connects to something somewhere, I need to determine if it is on the PC98 Viewer or B Server. How can I determine if B Server is sending correctly and PC98 is blocking the data from coming in or visa-versa?

Thanks

Packet capture

Post by lenisham »

1. User Microsoft's network Monitor.

2. Go open source
- Load winpcap (winpcap.polito.it/) at least 3.0 I am happy with the beta.

- Load windump (windump.polito.it/) basic no frills

or load Ethereal (www.ethereal.com)

Do packet captures of the working and non-working and anylyze the results.
