Viewer crashes when connecting to host w/ locked screensaver

Post by Exile »

I searched the forum, and this is a known problem that was to have been corrected on RC17. I just installed RC18 on an XP Pro as server, and attempted to connect from an XP home and a Win98SE running RC18 viewer. The server has RC18 video drivers installed.

I find that if the screen saver lock is on, or the log-on screen is on the viewer immediately crashes after entering the password. The server then hangs, and I have to kill the process and then restart the service. It connects normally if the desktop is unlocked.

Am I doing something wrong? This is a great little program, but I really don't want to leave my office machine unlocked just so I can use it. Was this fixed in RC17? If so, should I revert to that version? Should I uninstall before reverting?

Does the problem also happen if the driver is not used ? Polling mode.

A temp work around could be to use the screensaver in the same resolution as the screen, i think it is caused be a screen
resolution switch when the screensaver switch to the passwd screen.

We check it in august....with all the other bugs

I will test that tomorrow. Please be specific as to how to set up the server for "polling mode." Thank you.

Well I don't know about "polling mode," but I removed the drivers, rebooted and tried again. It still crashes.

I am using the built-in Windows screen saver set to blank. I am not aware of any way to change the resolution on this. I would think it is the same resolution as the desktop. You may be on to something though, because the screen lock that is triggered on resume from the screen saver seems to be the culperate. I tried it with screen saver on but no lock and it worked fine. It must be something to do with the lock screen. The log-on screen just plain crashes it. I tried RealVNC and it works fine, so I am sure this problem can be fixed.

Okay, will do. Thank you.

Aparently running as a service is the fix.

I was searching through the forum and ran across the fact that running ultravnc as a service might solve my problem. I tried it and it did.

I had no idea that running as a service would be required for this to function properly. I hope this post helps someone else with a similar problem.
