"Push" Type Installation?

Post by Guest »

Is there any way to remotely push UltraVNC to a client workstation that currently has no remote control software installed? What I mean by this is copy the installation files to a potential host PC and have it install on the host so no one needs to physically be in front of a PC to install the VNC server, enabling it to then accept connections.

There is a program called Dameware that does this. I would much rather have VNC in our organization but some other people here think it is really important to be able to do this push thing.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

"Push" Type Installation?

Oliver wrote a nice .cmd script for this purpose. You can download it here:

P.S. It works fine with versions up to RC14 (driver was still integrated into the package).

vncspread.cmd issues

I think I set everything correctly here. I put the installation files in the same directory as the script, changed the file names appropriately. Exported a registry file containing the settings for VNC and gave it the name vncinst.reg, downloaded psexec.exe and pout it in the same directory as all this other stuff, set the machines.txt file with a hostname on my domain.

This message comes up every time:
c:\temp\VNCSetup.exe exited on cohxpws057 with error code 0.

Sometimes the PC even reboots while the script is running and then it get more error messages because the PC is offline.

Any help would be appreciated. Are there any instructions for this script or the preocedure at all? If not, I guess I'll be equipped to make some ;)

Thanks again,
Mike

This is not actually an error message, but the notification that NO error occured (it's the %ERRORLEVEL%) of the exitting program ;)

Does something else not work, such that you assume something is wrong?

Ah, yes I saw something about that while googling the situation. Actually, it is working. Sorry about that. I was confusing because of the error messages. It may have really failed once or twice but not I can't be sure but that really doesn't matter at this point, I hope.

I think I can tweek the script to work well for my needs at this point. This is very cool! I do, however, have at leat one other question:

Uninstall does not appear to operate cleanly -- some files and the shortcuts are removed but the service and some residual files still exist after uninstall and the service still launches after reboot. Is there any way to make it remove everything?

Thanks again,

Are you interested in removing Ultr@VNC remotely using a script or just on a local machine?
