does norton block vnc

Post by slam »

I installed norton av 9 corp edition on a remote system.
I installed using ultravnc. reboot and I cannot connect.
Does norton AV really block port 5900? or is this fluke?
I had to call the remote user and uninstall norton and I was back up and running. If norton does block ports. how do I unblock them in norton av.

Norton AV installs a companion application this act as a firewall.

Normal, the user should have gotten a pupop, asking to accept winvnc to connect external...

use the products TS or open up your wallet. You brought the product and it comes with documentation and some TS.

No one here gets paid to do this.

I don't need your swearing. Also the previous person had an idea and I am asking HIM to expound if HE feels like it.

Most internet providers deliver the Norton Internet security cd.

Norton AntiVirus™
Norton™ Personal Firewall
Norton™ Privacy Control
Norton AntiSpam™
Norton™ Parental Control

By default, Personal Firewall and Privacy Control are also installed.
Check
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/nis_pe/features.html

Only install the AV part, else you need to make time and check the manuals for specific port settings.

I wish it were the security cd. its norton av corporate 9.0 after install it shows nothing about firewall, the online manual says zip about blocking ports. I was just hoping vnc users had seen this. I will post in norton av forums. thanks

norton av corporate 9.0 didn't see it....

Test you can do:

Does it work as application ?
Does it work on another port ?

Should you give a better clue...
Enable vnc logging, is there any trace from an incoming connection?

Can't help you on this one...

this is to "lenisham" based on his reply to the user "guest"...can't help but to comment when forum users get like that:

based on your reply about "no one gets paid her to do this" to the user "guest".....why are you on this forum. just curious because forums such as these are for guys who like to offer help if they can and also find help if they can (you scratch my back I scratch yours kinda mentality). If you don't have an answer then don't reply or just say...sorry, don't know. Again, forums are for "techie bonding" and yes sometimes you get guys who aren't as experienced as others.....but they gotta learn somewhere and the last time I checked VNC is free...so either give a polite answer or just be quiet.

my two cents

OK it has been a bad week for me, but you are correct I should be more polite.

I apologise to anyone I offended.

I just find it anoying when some one isn't checking the documentation or FAQs before asking for help. I have seen too many negative posts asking why no one is helping when the information is available for tose that search for it.

I also wish that the PFW people would make a better interface and make it easier for an average user to protect their computer and get what they need done. The current state causes many people to underutilize the products to be able to work and that is not good for anyone.
