Both sides are waiting... but no connection

Post by afatac »

I am installing a Repeater at my own PC behind a modem/router. Ports 5901, 5500 and 443 have been forwarded.

I started Viewer and Server on two PCs. Both are connected to Repeater successfully. One is waiting for Server and the other one is waiting for Viewer.

However, there is no connection after that. I have checked and ensured that the username and password are correct.

I tested with repeater01.ultravnc.info and there is no problem. So it seems that the problem is on the Repeater that I installed.

Any clue?

Do you mean using the distributor.exe downloaded from http://sc.uvnc.com/Update_10July.zip ?

I have used it but the outcome is still the same. That is, both sides are waiting and no connection.

connection by viewer GUI and winvnc GUI ?
or
connection by viewer CLI and SC or winvnc CLI ?

CLI = Command Line Interface
GUI = graphic User interface

The viewer is PcHelpWare Viewer GUI 1.0.0.1 and the server is created using the "Create Server" feature within the viewer.

Since there is no probelm testing with repeater01.ultravnc.info, the problems should come from the repeater's settings and my router's settings.

But the point is that both viewer and server have already passed the initial setup stages and just waiting for each other, I do not know what else is preventing them from making the final connection.

if you test loopback with your in house network with public ip or FQDN,
some routers don't allow this function or need to be enabled before use. read book of your router
so this stand on waiting because loopback is not available.

I am testing both Viewer and Server from locations outside the office today, with Reapter stays behind rounter in the office.

Great! The connection is working.

Next, I tested with Viewer outside the office, and Server in the office (same LAN as the Repeater).

Now, both waiting for each other but no connection.

So looks like what redge said is correct. The problem is I do not know which function to look at in the router. I am using D-Link DIR-300.

The D-Link router does not seem to have any setting related to enable/disable loopback. May be there is something else, but I can't figure out.

Anyway, my solution is that I created two different versions of Viewer and Server. One uses the Internet IP address for the Repeater. The other one uses local IP address for the Repeater.

Whenever I need to use Viewer or Server in the office, I will use the one with the local IP address for the Repeater. :-)
