how to work out the User Account Control (UAC)

Post by c8aj »

Team,

I have two questions about the Windows Vista UAC, I am trying to give support between Windows Xp and Windows Vista, the support is from the Xp system to the Vista system. The issue appears when I try to do an administrative task in the Vista system, Vista pops up its UAC and from my side; the Xp system; I cannot handle the UAC, I cannot do any action for about a minute, the good thing is that I dont lose the connection; and after a minute I recover the control.
What I'd like to know is what is left to do, in order to be able to handle that UAC, is there a patch, hotfix
My other question is if there is a solution with other vnc version.

Thanks,
-Carlos

Bump for a response. I'm sorry if this has already been answered. In searching the forum, I've seen it mentioned but I too have yet to find the answer.

A quick and dirty way is have the other party put UAC in quiet mode using TweakUAC, you should be able to work unhindered after that.

UAC require vnc to be running as service
Don't disable UAC, else CAD won't work

I use the single click version of PcHelpWare in this manner and it works fine. I can right click the task bar and bring up Task Manager and interact with the desktop as Admin (assuming the user account IS Admin level). In Quiet Mode UAC is not fully disabled, all that has been done is the Secure Desktop prompts have been disabled.

Thanks mcwtim, I was thinking of creating a bat file that automates the process to make it easier on customers but I will give that a shot first.

How do you run pchelpware as a service? If the customer/client right clicks the module and select run as administrator will it then run as a service?

I use the SC version of PCHW, so it is not running as a service to my knowledge. If you are looking for typical client/server install this is likely not going to work and you need to look at the normal UVNC 1.05 for Vista. My method works on the SC version to allow full interaction with the remote PC desktop.
