Javaviewer port to html5

Post by debuti »

Are there any plans to port the javaviewer to an standard, open, reliable, no-installation-of-anything, real-web-if, html5 webapp?

Thank you :)

There are drafts of html5, and they are very usable. YOu've got several proof of concept like the quake version made by google.

All the web browsers must include it since it is the new html STANDARD, i know IE dont support it right now but it should.

I dont think it is a bad idea..

I agree, it's a fine idea, assuming HTML5 can provide adequate functionality, which I suspect it may. (Heck, even modern Javascript could probably suffice.)

The problem is getting someone to write it. :)

I suppose everyone's given up hope of Java ever being a reasonably slim and functional browser platform by now. :(

Wow! Great news. Seek, and you found....

I'm not a huge fan of AJAXy bloat, but I suppose it's better than any Java applet. ;)

Hello,

My name is Mike; I'm the developer responsible for the Guacamole webapp mentioned above. I've been trying to get people to test so that the documentation (and program) can be improved.

Congratulations, debuti, honorary member of the Guacamole testers group! Could you please provide information about what in particular wasn't working, and what steps you followed? It would also be helpful to know the details of your platform (browser, servlet container, VNC server, operating system, etc.) If we can work out the issues with your install, I can improve the documentation accordingly.

Understandable. I'm trying to improve Guacamole's AJAX code with each release. HTML5 provides (or will provide) an elegant and more efficient alternative to AJAX, WebSockets, but that will be difficult to implement until browsers and servlet containers develop support.

Once WebSocket support can be implemented server-side, I will add support for WebSockets client-side, with the AJAX code remaining as a failsafe.

VERY cool, Mike. Welcome to the forums, and great success on your project! I hope to get around to testing it myself at some point. (I'm still struggling to get regular old VNCs to meet my needs, and they've been in development for a decade or two now.) :)
