Mirror Driver Static Load Mode

Post by BrianAPurdy »

When connecting to or disconnecting from a remote PC using the mirror driver in Vista, there is a flicker and sometimes a message in the notification area about the scheme changing to Vista Basic. This appears to be dependent upon current desktop settings on each uvnc server PC as well as the specific video driver setup. Specifically, this flickering/notification is caused by the "mirror driver" loading and unloading whenever someone connects.

It would be advantageous in some cases to set up the mirror driver statically per logon or startup (loads once at the beginning and unloads at logoff or shutdown) so that the flickering and notifications do not occur. Most notably, this would be helpful when:
1. multiple viewers connect and disconnect, and/or
2. console users of the PC running ultravnc server must NOT know if/when a viewer is connected.

Sometimes, a sacrifice in available memory or performance is acceptable to achieve invisibility.

The WDS (Windows Desktop Sharing) Api in Vista (and later) has a similar "static" property for loading a mirror driver set under IRDPSRAPISessionProperties called DrvConAttach.

Also, a question related to this... in Vista there is a mirror driver already available for use (rdpencdd.dll). Was this not adequate for use in UltraVNC? I had a painful time trying to install the provided mirror driver silently. I ended up having to use 5 separate certutil commands to install certficates before I could get the mirror driver to install successfully.

I've the same problem. Could you please describe the certutil.exe commands that must be executed to avoid this annoying popup?

Kind Regards,
Michael
