Option to Connect in Filemanager Mode

Post by TallAdmin »

Hi!

Thanks for very useful piece of software UltraVnc is.

I want to ask to implement one feature.

I have many comps in management with UVnc installed. Many connections are made only for copying some files from/to remote PC.
But I need to wait for loading of initial screen, both in view or full access mode, and only after that I can launch File Manager.

It will be great to make option like "View Only" but "Filetransfer". It's no need to show desktop in this mode.

Or as a variation instead of one "Connect" button will be nice to see 3 buttons: "Full", "View" and "FileManager".

I think this feature will be useful not only for me.

[mod=494,1307482640]moved from 1.0.9.6 to feature request[/mod]

Thanks in advance!

Interesting idea. Probably wouldn't be terribly hard to implement (?) but I also don't see much use for it... How often do you really need to do this, and how long does the screen refresh take? Perhaps you'd be better off installing a better file transfer system (ftp, a VPN setup like OpenVPN or Hamachi that would let you use normal Windows file copying, etc.)

I have slow DSL channels and not very fast computers.
So working in FileTransfer mode with active desktop window will slowdown work on remote computer.

Understood; maybe just minimizing the window would help? And the non-VNC options I mentioned would still be better; I can tell you that OpenVPN in particular is quite light-weight.

Thanks, I have enough knowledge to set up FTP Server on every computer in the network. All my computers are already in corporate network.
I think requested feature - simple change between 3 modes (Full access, View and File transfer) and independent start of each mode will be convenient not only for me...

I hope it will not be very hard to implement this ...

Thanks.

I can see how this would be useful. I'd also like to see this implemented if possible.

I think this would be a useful one. Though people with slow connection might have some problem on it, but if implemented we might see the real advantage of this.

I agree with independent modes as an option to those with slow connection.
Hope to see good results!

I was actually going to post and see if there is a way to do just this. Our old remote management software (zenworks) did this function. You could remote, or launch a file management session. There are lots of time we don't want to, or need full control, and just want to push files to someone. Being in an environment where we don't have AD it makes this complicated. Case in point is when we want to push files to a system for pending updates but don't want to impede the user while they are working. A file transfer only option would make this a breeze. My coworkers got used to the option being there in zenworks, and now that we've switched to using ultraVNC it's something that's missed.

I would also love to see this features. Our old systems management tool Zenworks allowed a file transfer only option which our administrators really liked to use. There are a number of times where we don't' want to remote in, interrupting user work, just to push some files that they need. Since we are not on an AD environment that proves difficult. The ability to do this from within the VNC client would be awesome.

More of that, may be one more button is needed...
Or may be part of the button, like in times of Win 3.11 :-)
I mean remote server configuration.
It will be nice to press button with something like spanner described on it to show server configuration dialog.
Of course, we need to protect possibility to save changes by separate or maybe full view password.
I understand, that changes will be available only after restart because they a saved in .ini file...

What our Guru can say? It is possible?
