Performance optimization possible?

Post by winXp »

Hi to all!

I just installed UltraVNC 1.0.8.2 on my server. Windows XP Prof is installed on it. Everything worked very good so far but the performance is not good enought. I am connected to my server via LAN. E.g. the mouse curser doesn't move smoothly and all.

I disabled the blue interface of windows xp and activated the classic style. I also turned the resolution down to 800x600x16.

1. question: Do you have any hints to improve the performance?

2. question: I think I installed the driver but I am not sure. Do you know how to figure it out?

3. question: do you know how to make the GUI of win. xp "smaller" so that it needs less resources?

nice greetings and best wishes and I hope you can help me!

1. Ensure you have decent upload speed on the target machine's Internet connection (minimum 64 Kbps or so). You've already drastically reduced screen resolution and color depth, so there's not more you can do other than tweak encoding style within UltraVNC and make sure the mirror driver's on.

2. If you right-click the system tray icon and select Properties, you should have a button that reads "Check the Video Hook Driver".

3. Again, you've already done that; you could try going down to 640x480 if you really want to push it.

Regarding your mouse, there are 3 mouse-tracking options under Options in the Viewer.

hi again.

sorry for my late reply but I had to work (school) a lot.

My problem was that I knew I installed the driver but I didn't know if it's active. So I just checked that one option and suddenly everything ran more fluently!!
Maybe I try to reduce the GUI of Windows XP more but THANKS MAN FOR GIVING ME THE HINT FOR ACTIVATING THE DRIVER!! THX A LOT!! (sry for the big letters but I have to do that :) )

nice greetings and best whishes!!

THHHXXX!!
