My quadcopter project!

Post by supercoe »

I've been having a lot of fun lately with the quadcopter I built last weekend and figured I'd share one of my other hobbies with everyone. ;)
Flying this thing is a great way to relax after looking at a computer all day!

Very cool.

Seemed very stable the whole time -- is that a testament to its design or to your elite flying skills? I confess to fast forwarding a fair amount (9 minutes!) but did it make it above the treeline at any point?

I also appreciated the dual-view presentation.

Very difficult to fly but I've been into radio control since I was a kid.
My goal is to build one that is easier to fly for others but I like how this one is fairly sporty. :)

The video was long because it was my first full flight with the camera.
In the comments I have a link to 6:10 when I go the highest.

Warthox is a big inspiration for this project and I hope some day to fly like he can!

Currently I'm flying much more aggressively than in my video but it's a challenge to stay oriented like this guy can.

I've never flown a multi-rotor copter, but it looks like you can be extremely creative since it can carry a payload. I just got a Blade mSR, but it loses stability if the battery slides too far back. :P

Speaking of, I need to order a new landing skid for it...

lol, nice find.
I'd love to have a thermal camera, that looks like a blast!
Hopefully I'll be flying FPV into an active Hawaiian volcano this spring. :)

Will do!

The incoming winter wind is finally starting to die down so I might get some good flying weather!

Nice area to fly in. I especially like when you trim the grass and then end up with a piece on your copter later. :)

There's plenty of open area to fly in northern MN, soon I'll have some snow flights. :)

Here are some pics of the latest quad that I built for a friend out of PVC. I call it the plumbers quadcopter.

Come on; with those LED arrays now you're just trying to freak out the local UFO nuts with late night mischief...

I just got a used Blade 400 copter I bought put back together and working.

My maiden flight was supposed to consist of a low altitude hover to allow me to trim all controls, but that didn't go as planned because I was flying in too small an area and had to force a landing before it got away from me at which point the rotor blades disentegrated on touchdown because I couldn't hold it level.

I knew the day would end with a crash, but I was hoping for more than 60 seconds of flying time. :P The joys of helicopter ownership!!

Bummer you had such a short flight, such is the world of RC isn't it?
Glad to see other pilots on here. :) Good luck in the future.
