Repeater port getting closed

Post by winmansoft »

Hello ,
I am a new user of Chunk VNC , I have set up the repeater in our server but have run into an issue.
After a while of using VNC without any errors , the port in my repeater server gets closed.
What may be causing this ?
Also some times , the viewer doesnt connect.. can anyone let me know some of the known issues with repeater and chunk VNC?

Thank u

Sometimes the repeater can crash are you sure the repeater was running when you say the port closed?

Thanks for the reply..
When I run the netstat /a command in my win2008 server it says the port is in listening mode.. but when I check through "http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/" it will show that the port is closed.. This is happening many times in a day.. I have to restart the repeater each time..
What might be causing this?

What happens if you connect from another machine on the same network as the repeater? If it responds, then the problem would be at the firewall/router level.

(You could just telnet to the repeater port from another station.)

My server is a godaddy VDS.. Godaddy is not blocking any ports ("confirmed by their agent"). The repeater in the server will not crash , but it will have many msgs like "reading proxy setting erro" "writing protocol version erro" "ECONNRESET detected" in the log.. Customers will get the msg " Connection to the repeater was not possible"..
This is causing a lot of problems..

@B
Once this happens all the customers get the same msg that the "conn to the repeater was not possible"

The errors in the repeater log are normal.
Known Issues:

HTTP proxy support requires that the repeater is running with a server port of 443.
You cannot install InstantSupport as a service if an HTTP Proxy is detected. *UltraVNC limitation.
The repeater log will show an error such as "Reading Proxy settings erro" when InstantSupport or ChunkViewer checks for its existence.
Try running the repeater on a different machine.
Sorry I don't have better advice.

I have shifted to a new godaddy server yest.. till now the error has come only twice.. I have disabled MODE I after that.. Can that be an issue, using both modes together? also when checked in TCPmonitor there are many repeater connection in WAIT_CLOSE mode for the same client?

Only mode II should be enabled.

The default Repeater settings that come with ChunkVNC 3.3.1 are:

Possibly a bug but I've never used Mode I.

Is there a way to close the connection of the server from my side.. in the case where customers have not uninstalled Instant Support?

Not yet as the InstantSupport script can't currently run as a service.
I'd like to have this feature someday though. :)

It may simply be that GoDaddy is not giving you a reliable VPS.

I suggest you temporarily try dedicating a server at your home or office to act as a repeater (preferably running the same OS and setup as your VPS) and see if your problems go away.

As to your last question, winmansoft, one way to "close" the connection, of course, is to remotely restart your repeater.

Port has not closed after I disabled mode I , so I guess we can be sure that using both modes was the problem..
Anyways , thank u for the wonderful piece of s/w.. Keep Improving!
