linux ppp help

Postby Rudi De Vos » 2005-01-12 23:50

PC viewer(192.168.1.11)<-->ppp(192.168.1.10)<-linux ->eth0(192.168.0.10)<------->PC's(19.168.0.x)

netmask 255.255.255.0
forwarding is set to 1
proxyarp activated for ppp

I need to get access to the PC'c via a ppp dialin.
Ppp is working, i can telnet from the viewer PC to the linux box.

ping 192.168.1.10 OK
ping 192.168.0.10 OK
ping 192.168.0.x fails...

Have to be some routing problem, or does ppp and eth0 does
not act as router...
Possible a routing problem on the PC, does the PC need to have a special routing ?

Anybody out who already solved something simular...
It is 250KM from home, so i hope it can be solved with only unix changes :)

Or is the only way to rewrite the repeater for linux ?

Routing is the problem, But surprisingly so I think its the 192.168.0.X computer.

Why?-
The nix box knows about both segments so it should techincally be routing from your 192.168.1.0X ppp computer through the nix box to the other 192.168.0.X network just fine. but the other box doesnt know how to get back to the 192.168.1.X network unless you set up the default gateway on the 192.168.0.X pc to be your linux box 192.168.0.1?.

Now... Im assuming you only gave me a glimse of your network and there could be things you break if its more complex then what was stated.

Eth0 should pass through requests if made from the ppp adapter which of course since it is your default gateway it will..

Hope this helps.

Thanks, the problem is indeed the PC's.
They have a default router that does not know how the handle
the 192.168.1 range...

Found a solution
netcat (linux port forwarder)
winvnc connect to linux eth0, and nethack forward port to ppp.
