Hi, Rudi.
In versions of the viewer after 1.2.0.6, "Auto select best settings" seems to select u2 compression, whereas before, it usually would select Hextile. This has lead to very noticeable splotchiness (very similar to JPEG artifacts). What are the criteria for the compression selection, and is u2 supposed to be the default for LAN/high-bandwidth environments?

The bins were almost a month online before we released 1.2.11.

We will see what can be done for the backward compatibility, this should be easy to repeat.
Current i'm working on translatated version, when that's done... we check all reported issue's.

Translations winvnc.exe
fr
de
es
ru <<< possible font issue some text is displayed as ???????? but don't know if the cause is my pc language
or actual a src issue.
As i don't understand the languages, there could be funny translations.

Hextile is a good comperssion for screen with solid colors, like XP with standard window applications.
But as soon as you have images on the screen the compression factor is low.
Compare it with zipping a raw image.

The default encoder (auto) is u2 as it can, be use with high and low bandwidth.
A part of the unstability is the encoder switching and using u2 we almost are sure the speed is ok.
For text, hextile is recommended, to monitor the performance ( like we show 6 servers taskmgr on a single screen)
the u2 does the trick.

If the viewer initiate the connection, you can use the uvnc_launcher.exe.
This allow to set options based on the connection server, include passwords /encoders etc...
Settings are saved with encrytpion ( aes) with a custom password.

Last x86 installer (from 22-05-2016) contains winvnc.exe on french (?) language.
DSM-plugins also outdated, from 2013 year (encryptionplugins_1211.zip - form 2014 year).

Auto build error, i will check the french vserver.

Plugins are indeed from 2013, they didn't changed for a long time.
( last code change was even in 2012, security upgrade of openssl)
No need to rebuild .

How do I get 1.2.11 to match the 1.2.10 behaviour?

Host machine has 1600x900 and 1920x1080 screens.
Client machine has a 1920x1080 screen.
VNC viewer window not maximised for any of the below.

In 1.2.10:
  1. Connect to the host with client in 1600x900 mode. Client gets a 1600x900 window centred on the 1920x1080 display.
  2. Attach 1920x1080 screen to host. Host's desktop moves to new screen (because Windows says so). Client window expands to 1920x1080.
  3. Detach 1920x1080 screen from host. Host desktop reverts to 1600x900. Client window moves back to the centre of the screen with dimensions 1600x900.

In 1.2.11:
  1. Connect to the host with client in 1600x900 mode. Client gets a 1600x900 window centred on the 1920x1080 display.
  2. Attach 1920x1080 screen to host. Host's desktop moves to new screen (because Windows says so). Client window moves to top left but does not expand to 1920x1080.
  3. Detach 1920x1080 screen from host. Host desktop reverts to 1600x900. Client window moves back to the centre of the screen with dimensions 1600x900.

I've tried this with 'Save Size' checked and 'Save Size' unchecked, but there is no difference. If I check 'Save Position' then the window stays in place (offset from top left) but does expand (off-screen) and contract.

With the latest 64-bit release of 1.2.1.1, we still get grey screens on first connections sometimes between a 1.2.1.1 server and 1.2.1.1 viewer...
