Set server to show individual display based on port number?

Set server to show individual display based on port number?

Postby swalter » 2021-03-22 23:04

I apologize if this is a duplicate post -- I thought I posted a few hours ago but I don't see my message on the board.

I just started using uVNC again after several years, and I do not see a way to connect to a uVNC server using a port number to indicate which display should be shared. With most/all other VNC servers I have used, connecting to computer:590x will show all active displays when x=0, display #1 when x=1, display #2 when x=2, etc. Is this possible, and if so, how do I configure it?

All my machines are Win10 64-bit, and I am using uVNC version 1.3.2. Please let me know if there's a way to accomplish this -- I often need to access machines using VNC clients other than uVNC (e.g., connect from my phone) and being able to use this standard method to select a display is really helpful.

Thanks, and apologies if this is addressed elsewhere. I searched the forums and the documentation, and nothing came up.

computer:590x
On linux the x is indeed a display number, you have a vnc server for each session.
Each vnc start his own X session, display:0 display:1.
On linux, vnc works like a windows rdp server, you don't clone the desktop but start a seperate session.

On windows multiple monitors are all connected to the same session, so when you connect to the vnc server running on a port you have access to all monitors. There is only when vnc server.

Thanks for that clarification. Now that I think about it, on Windows I am pretty sure I was previously using TIghtVNC server, where you can configure it to show different desktop geometries based on port number. Might be a cool feature addition for uVNC :)
