DSMPlugin: How can I make sure that it is actually working

Post by UltraSam »

Same answers than for the following questions :

***

- How can I make sure that the connection is encrypted when "Use DSM plugin" is checked ?

- Even when "Use DSM Plugin" is not checked I can connect to the server where "Use DSM Plugin" is checked: security problem !

Ok, here are the answers

First, if you can connect the viewer without using any DSM -Encryption- Plugin that means that the server does NOT use any plugin for the connection (even if you think that it should). Consequently, in this case, your connection is NOT encrypted.
If you encounter this situation, that's presumably because WinVNC is not correctly configured to use the plugin. Please check both "Default settings" (service mode) and User settings (application mode) WinVNC "property" pages using the StartMenu/Programs/UltraVNC/UltraVNC server menu entries.
In both windows, select the DSM Plugin, check "Use DSM Plugin" and configure it if necessary.
Then reboot the server (required on some plateformes)

If you check "Use DSM Plugin" in the viewer before connecting, and if the server is correctly configured, you should be prompted for the VNC password.
Once connected, you can either:
- Display the viewer's "Connection Info" windows (right-click on the viewer title bar then select the corresponding menu entry)
- Or you can click on the "Status window" button of the viewer's toolbar and check the "Status line": you should read "Connected (MS RC4 plugin-v1.1.0)" if the encryption plugin is actually used to encrypt the connection.
