MSRC4Plugin does not work

Post by kuriharu »

I've read COUNTLESS articles on this, and it still doesn't work.

1. I run VNCViewer, copy the 122 plugin to the c:\program files\ultravnc directory, generate a new key.
2. I renamed new_r4.key to r4.key
3. I copy those two files to my folder with my custom.zip, and include them.
4. I made sure my helpdesk.txt file has the -plugin line
5. I created the vncviewer shortcut with the -dsmplugin msrc4plugin.dsm line in it, and that the "start in" line is correct.
6. The tray icon starts and listens on 5500
7. I start my custom.exe program (name is changed), and click on the link to start the connection

What I get is "Connection Active", and it waits, but it never connects. VNCViewer on my PC sits there locked up until I kill the connection. Once I do, I get
"Connection failed - Error reading protocol version
Possible causes:

-You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin and the server uses one
-The selected dsmplugin is not compatible with the one running on the server
- the selected dsmplugin is not correctly configured
- the password you've possibly entered is incorrect."

Well, I'm using exactly the same dsmplugin in both my UltraVNC directory and in my custom.exe, so that kind of rules out 1 and 2. I don't know how to configure the plugin, it seems to run automatically, and I've NEVER entered a password.

Any clues? I'm all out...

do you have a password set in the admin properties of UVNC??

to configure it you really just need to check it and make sure you have the *.dsm plugin and a key if you use one in the uvnc directory.

I would use the most recent copy of it form here
