UltraVNC very slow?

Post by labtek »

Hello,

I got both UltraVNC and pcAnywhere to compare how fast they each were. I wanted my background transmitted so I kept that enabled. For some reason UltraVNC took very long for screen updates. For example, when I clicked on say IE, it took over a minute before it showed up on the screen.

Am I doing something wrong here? Do I have something configured incorrectly?

Thanks,
lab

Slow Vista:

Driver
Application mode : Driver doesn't work, permission issue.
In application mode you must start it as "runasadmin"

Hook:
Vista has a special hook dll (schook.dll and seperated downloaded)
http://sc.uvnc.com/SChook.dll

I have good results without driver and using the hook,
[v] disable earo (server option) also improve the speed a lot ( on my system the speed is identical to XP when aero disabled)

Settings (see video)
LAN ( video of viewer)
Vista
Mirror driver
winvnc (started application mode, runasadmin)
http://sc.uvnc.com/vistadriver.avi
Vista
No driver
SChook.dll
http://sc.uvnc.com/vista.avi

WAN
repeater: uvnc.com location (US phoenix) (10MB full)
server/viewer: ADSL (400k/3Mb) EU(Brussels)
Shared ADSL, server/viewer via same modem
This full simulate a WAN connection, even slower as data need to travel
up and down.
A)

Driver used
zrle
256 colors
Switch from driver to non driver mode made is slow...
B)

Non driver mode from start

Same , Vista is slower then XP because it use a lot of animation on his desktop... on XP is should be faster.

schook also work on XP
driver doesn't require "runasadmin"
