Manual removal of VNC, RealVNC, TridiaVNC, etc.

Anybody point me to a manual procedure for removing all traces of previous versions of VNC?

I want to install RC 16 and then 17, but I have had various versions of the various varieties of VNC installed.

I know services have to be shut down, registry entries deleted, and files deleted. Which ones and where?

I want to make the machine squeaky clean before installing again.

You have not specified which operating system you are running, but for Win98, for example, the program will probably have installed itself in c:\program files\UltraVNC. Inside that directory there is an Uninstall Application called "unins000.exe". Run that first. You could probably manually delete any left-over files in that directory too.

Now for the register. Start>Run> type "Regedit". Export the register first to somewhere safe just in case. Run Registry>Export Registry File. Then run Edit>Find and type "vnc". Any time it finds an entry, just hit the "delete" button. Press F3 to find the next entry etc... Once finished, Exit from the Registry Editor. Reboot.

This is a very "down & dirty" method that would probably not be recommended by any expert. I am not an expert, just an average hack, so no responsibility is taken! Good Luck.

Like he said above, be very careful in the registry.
Look in \hkey current user\software\orl and
hk local machine\software orl

The installations have NT, and Win2k.

Editing the registry is not a problem. Been there before and understand the process and potential issues.

So from what you say, all changes will be confined to two areas of the registry.

I'm pretty sure those are the main entries in the registry.
When you are done, I would scan for vnc through the whole thing to see if anything else comes up.
