SC with MSRC4Plugin --> "Buffer to big"

Postby mardo01 » 2008-02-27 13:39

Hi,

if I connect with SC to my viewer, the viewer pops the message "Buffer to big".

What does it means?

Thx!

buffer to big --> memory bounding protection to block possible exploids.

Could also be caused by an wrong decryption.

If your SC.exe is created with the UVNC online creator, the be aware that the MSRC4dsmplugin used is ver. 1.1.6, which is not compatible with the latest ver.1.2.2.

Should it be the case, you make sure to use a 1.1.x MSRC4dsmplugin at the viewer end to see if the problem can be fixed.

Thank you YY,

that's the solution for all my problems with sc and current RC.

Use the dsmplugin V1.1.6 with vncviewer and sc instead of V1.2.2. The connection between remote with sc and vncviewer works now great !!!

Before I got this information it wasn't possible to get a connection with sc and vncviewer with encryption. I wasted much time in trying to get connection with plugin v1.2.2.

I also got the message 'can not connect because the server uses DSM encription and I did not select a DSM pluggin'. But all was set up correct, I think.

So, redge or Rudi, can you change the sc online creator on homepage that it works with current version of dsmplugin ?

thx

this is one of the many reasons I believe that we need one program to serve and view the lot not bits and pieces everywhere using all sorts of incompatible components.

Rudi if your reading I know its your shout and your the coder but when I look at the Team mission statement is where I think its going further from that...

Having said that way off topic I also venture in saying Im new here and I dont know the plans or roadmap for the future of uVNC. ;)

And If I said something I shouldnt Im sorry but hey thats me...

indeed
UltraVnc SC online creator - UltraVncSC based on REL1.00
http://sc.uvnc.com/cgi-bin/upload2.pl
allow to use your own dsmplugin, just add your own msrc4plugin.dsm (no other name allowed) in your custom zipped file.

edit - replaced msrc4dsmplugin.dsm by msrc4plugin.dsm (sorry for the mistake)

Hi redge,

I tested your suggestion. But it doesn't work. I put MSRC4Plugin-122.dsm in custom.zip with name msrc4dsmplugin.dsm.

But same result as before.

you do a mistake somewhere.
I tried successfully with the SC creator 1.00 not SC20.3

don't forget you had replaced your msrc4plugin.dsm with an older release 1.1.6

i think you uploaded the same file, so you receive back the same previous file.
don't upload same filename, could be same content but not same name.
otherwise you receive your previous file until 24h ours past.

Hi redge,

I am so sorry. But I checked everything again and again. But it doesn't want to work with 1.2.2 and SC.

Put msrc4dsmplugin.dsm (1.2.2) in custom.zip.
Put rc4.key in zip file
Uploaded zip file with name custom1.zip.
Downloaded custom1.exe.
Started vncviewer with C:\Programme\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe -listen 5900 -dsmplugin MSRC4plugin-122.dsm
Started custom1.exe on remote.

Be sure I replaced dsmplugin in folder of vncviewer to the newest version back.

All same result. Always message 'can not connect because the server uses DSM encription and you did not select a DSM pluggin'

Without msrc4dsmplugin.dsm in custom.zip file and starting vncviewer with plugin v1.1.6 with
C:\Programme\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe -listen 5900 -dsmplugin MSRC4plugin-116.dsm the connection is established.

So where is my fault ?
- Vncviewer is started with correct command (without blanks)
- RC4 key is the same in sc and folder of vncviewer
- It seems to me that online creator doesn't use the dsm file in custom.zip

Hi redge,

finally I found the problem.
Code: Select all
UltraVnc SC online creator - UltraVncSC based on REL1.00 allow to use your own dsmplugin.
Just add your own msrc4dsmplugin.dsm (no other name allowed) in your custom zipped file.

The problem is the file name !
You must add the file MSRC4Plugin-122.dsm in custom.zip and rename it to MSRC4Plugin.dsm and NOT to msrc4dsmplugin.dsm like you told me.
So now it works great also with v1.2.2 of dsmplugin.

thx for your efforts

so long

Hi! Everyone,

I did encounter the same situation as falke before I can get my SC.exe(s) work. I was lucky not wasting too much time because I had visited the msrc4plugin home page, and by chance I noticed the author had mentioned the incompatiblilty of ver.1.1.x & 1.2.x at the Release Notes dated 5/17/2006

I don't know why uvnc.com didn't update the RC23 online creator to use the latest dsmplugin. Maybe there are some good reasons considering the 1.1.x is more suitable for the SC. That's not a problem, because my experience of SC.exe with msrc4dsmplugin 1.1.6 is perfect. So far so good.

The real problem is this information not showing on anywhere of uvnc.com. All new users are not alerted with this compatibility issue, and naturally they will try to use the latest build of the plugin.

Another reason why so many people having problem with the plugin is due to the viewer download package. Most users will download the uvnc 1.0.2 (before 1.0.4rc release) to get the viewer, and the msrc4dsmplugin bundled with is 1.2.0, so obvious they are unable to make it work with the created SC.exe

My opion is simple: have the above information putting on suitable position of uvnc.com site, so all users can know what they should use. This will help many new users to benefit with this little yet great tool without so much confusion.

SC with MSRC4Plugin Simple Install instruction

Postby falke » 2008-03-03 23:00

I agree to YY.

It would be easier if there are some more information on website.

I wasted much time in finding problems with incompability of dsmplugin.

So I try to describe my experience and ongoing for other users so they don't spend also so much time:

1.) Download and install Ultravnc 1.0.4 (RC14)
2.) Start winvnc.exe (server) and create rc4.key
3.) Download custom.zip from online creator
4.) Customize following files in custom.zip:
- helpdesk.txt
- logo.bmp
5.) Copy rc4.key from C:\Programme\UltraVNC\ to custom.zip
6.) Copy MSRC4Plugin-122.dsm from C:\Programme\UltraVNC\ to custom.zip and rename it to MSRC4Plugin.dsm.
7.) Upload custom.zip to online creator at http://sc.uvnc.com/cgi-bin/upload2.pl
8.) Download online created custom.exe from website
9.) Start Vncviewer on host with:
C:\Programme\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe -listen 5900 -dsmplugin MSRC4plugin-122.dsm
Be sure:
- the "MSRC4Plugin.dsm" must be at the same folder as vncviewer.exe
- there should be only ONE SPACE between every argument/parameters
- there should be NO SPACE appended after the script

10.) Start custom.exe on remote pc.

P.S.
- You have to configure port forwarding for port 5900 to your IP of host pc in your router.
- Use dyndns.org for dynamic IP

Ready
