Okay, finally back to normal. And a story to tell. I'm not sure how technical I should get without boring away potential readers
What happened in a nutshell is that the electricity was zapped from the host machine that runs the forum server. This had been announced by the hoster a little less than a month ago but I had forgotten (yep, the blame is on me).
Alright, so the host machine went down and when it happily woke up again in the morning after being moved to another server room 300-400km from its original location, it found some hibernation states of the virtual servers it was supposed to run. Alas, due to the "power outage" those were images from ages ago (my estimate is at 3/4 year old) and thus were not quite compatible with what the disk images contained (newer kernel, other files, maybe not some of the older files, newer program versions). So the old systems being revived from hibernation got mightily confused and spat all kinds of error messages on the consoles. It was even impossible to take them down in a controlled manner, so that I had to resort to the good old trusty:
xm destroy <domain>
command.
After that it was easy. Check the file systems and bring them back online one by one. The trouble was figuring out what was wrong in the first place.
Sorry for all the inconveniences this may have caused. _________________ Oliver (aka Assarbad)
