ChunkVNC installed as service - Stops working

Post by Kingsley »

Hi guys,

I've had a look through the forum, however cannot find anything quite the same as my problem.
Basically, I have everything set up and working, so that if you launch the Chunk Remote support.exe, then I cannot connect to that computer fine.

The problem is, when I install it as a service, it works temporarily, however seemingly stops. I'm not sure when it stop's, as it does work after the first reboot most the time, but then stops.

Any ideas?
They are still communicating with the server, as their ID numbers get updated in the log.

Any ideas?
Cheers!

This doesn't sound like the same problem, but just to be sure -- is it the case that you're expecting the server to stay connected to the repeater for long periods and only occasionally view it?

Because if so, there's a real bug with the UltraVNC 1.0.8.2 server (that most versions of ChunkVNC wrap) where it stops properly registering with the repeater...

It's possibly best described at [topic=18016][/topic]

You may see it connecting, but it's not doing it properly or often enough to keep registered.

Reverting to 1.0.8.0 makes the problem go away... you can slip it into your existing installation, especially if you have it installed as a service. That's what I did.

Possibly could be the problem!

I believe I'm using Rats build atm (although I was using the latest official one, only reason I'm using Rats was to see if issue was fixed)

v3.1g

Not really sure how to check if its 1.0.8.2. but Im sure I can figure it out!
Thanks

My post at [post=69668][/post] basically describes it. My service directory on Vista is C:\program files (x86)\ChunkVNC

As noted, I took the winvnc.exe from 1.0.8.0 and renamed it to be InstantSupportVNC.exe in that directory. (Rename and keep the old InstantSupportVNC.exe around in case you want to reverse the change.)

Oh, and right-click, Properties, Details tab will show you the version.

Still not working I'm afraid.

Tested with a couple of PC's, one with the CHunkvnc exe kept open, which still works after a week or so, and another one with it installed as a service, which has stopped working (using 1.0.8.0)

Any further ideas?

Interesting that you still had problems with the 1.0.8.0 server, I've reverted back to if for my test builds and it works fantastic for me. Before I was running into the "won't reconnect after some time" issue.

You can either replace InstantSupportVNC.exe with the older winvnc.exe by renaming OR replace the older winvnc.exe in the Bin directory and compile again.

Definately running it with 1.0.8.0 now, and still stops working after a while.

Bummer, I've had much better luck and have been able to reconnect to an InstantSupport installed days ago with 1.0.8.0.

Could you give more info as to what's going on? Does the server just stop reconnecting to the repeater? How long does it take?

I can see the server ID numbers show up in the repeater, however it just fails to connect from the viewer.

Restarting the service usually fixes it, however this is no good as it will be on peoples PC's where they have no Admin rights.

But the key is how FREQUENTLY it connects to the repeater. With 1.0.8.2, after a couple of hours it's only reconnecting every 15 minutes or so, which just doesn't work.

If I were at your target machine I'd be triple-checking that the running server was really not 1.0.8.2. You might have more than one version of UVNC installed and not realize it.

I too am experiencing this issue. 1.0.8.0 makes it better but does not seem to resolve it. :(

To help track this issue better I'll need a bit more info, OS, how long was it installed, did it slowly get worse or just stop reconnecting, etc...

Thanks

OS: XP Pro Sp3
Installed for about 2 days
worked fine and then just stopped.

It is possible there was a prolonged internet outage (client side) that proceeded this.

Thanks for the extra info, I have seen UltraVNC not like a change in WAN IP so let me know if you still have issues after their internet services start working again.

Just giving it another try on another PC, Windows 7.

Got rid of all traces of VNC, and installed Chunk. Chunk shows it as version 1.0.8.0.

Just connected to it fine after initial install.
Will test every hour or so.

Thanks
