Key auth doen't work with SecureVNC on Windows 7

Post by dinvlad »

Hello guys,

I can successfuly authenticate with UVNC server v.1.0.8.2 on Windows 7 from my Windows XP box (with UVNC viewer 1.0.8.2) using passwords and SecureVNC 2.2.4.0 plugin on both sides. However, when I generate a key pair on the client (WinXP) and put the 20100801_ClientAuth.pkey file to C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\ @WinXP machine and 20100801_ClientAuth.pubkey to C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\ @Win7 box, I'm still promted for a password no matter whether I check the "Password Required" Option in uvnc_settings.exe or not (I've restarted the service, of course). It seems the UVNC server ALWAYS requires password, which troubles me a lot (I'm used to passwordless auth for ssh using private-pubkey pair and would like to do the same for UVNC). Is it a supposed behavior? If yes, what's the use of the key pair, anyway then?

I'm sorry if this question was answered to before, but I couldn't find the solution on this forum. Thank you very much for any help.

UPDATE: This seems to be a problem with UVNC server, not the plugin, since the issue holds for MSRC4 as well.
