Auto vs Manual port settings

Post by Edix »

I don't have extensive experience with previous versions but in 1.0.9.5 it seems odd how the manual port setting is handled in the configuration window.

To begin with, the settings are displayed and handled differently depending on whether they are accessed via "Edit Settings" in the start menu or via the Admin Properties in the right-click menu of the system tray server icon.

I discovered this because I gave a user instructions to specify a 'manual' port setting of 5900. He responded that it would change as soon as he applied the settings. I was viewing the Edit Settings applet, he was using Admin Properties.

I get why someone thought it was useful to automatically switch to 'Display' if the port was left at 5900 but my personal view is that it was a bad decision.

Thoughts?
