VNC Multi session posible?

Post by Sunny »

Hi.
We are in the process of switching from Windows to Linux but I encountered a small problem with proprietary software running on windows only. The plan is to have a windows machine with all the software installed and connect to it via VNC from a Linux box.
What I would like to be able to do is to have 2 or more users connected to the windows box and running different pieces of software and not see the same screen. Is it possible to do it with VNC?

If not, is anyone aware of any solution?

Thanks.

Sunny

No, is not possible. Use Terminal Services and RDesktop instead.

YOu can not use VNC to do multi sessions for users sessions due to the fact that it shares one screen - the console screen.

YOu can however set up the VNC server so that -

Person a Logs in - Uses computer
Person b tries to log in - but person a is still on it... - puts them on hold or says cant connect.

Person a disconnects - automatically logs person A off and then connects person B. Or person B tries again.

Ive read of someone doing this and it sounds like in theory and with all the options this sounds like it should work.. give that a try if this may work for you.

of course you could just share the console and have the users fight over the mouse.. that would be amusing too.
