Crashes on first login attempt

Post by aegrotatio »

I'm using 1.0.8.2. The client is Windows Vista. The server is Windows XP Pro. The port is 5910. I am using "Auto" and all the default settings. The server is running as a service. The first two or three times I try to login, the server immediately crashes and disconnects. The third time I get my screen saver (which is just the Windows XP login screen) and when I move the mouse the server crashes again. I have the service set to restart every 1 minute after crashing. When I wait about a minute I can finally log in.

My server is using 32-bit color and has color mouse cursors. Its resolution is 1280x768. I am using both hookdll and the bvba driver (it doesn't seem to matter).

Hope someone has experienced this. I have tried ultravnc on and off over the years and along with tightvnc it's one of the most unstable ones. I also use TigerVNC and RealVNC and they've literally never crashed on these same two systems over several years--they really never crash. I want this stability to happen with UltraVNC.

auto is to ignore with ultravnc. use another option related to your connection.

you should be back to tightvnc 2.0b1 that support vista/7/2008/2008r2
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
Windows OS: XP Home + Vista Business + 7 Home

Okay I'll give it a try.
I'm still trying to isolate the server crashes vs. client crashes. I will explicitly set the mode upon login and keep an eye on it.

Thanks.
