Network Error:Could not connect to server:XX.XX.12.65:5900
Network Error:Could not connect to server:XX.XX.12.65:5900
Hi guys,
I have been using Ultra VNC for a long time. Recently I formatted one of my computer and now I am unable to connect to either of my two computers. Now keep in mind that I have not touched my desktop only my laptop. I am behind a DLink DI-524 router with all four ports opened (5800, 5801, 5900 and 5901) and the DHCP is the same way as it was with both PCs each with a unique ip address.
Now the part that wories me is that I can get to the part that I input my password on both ports (5800 and 5801) but once I enter the password I get the following message:
"Network error: Could not connect to server: XX.XX.XX.XXX:5900" keep in mind that the "XX" are actually my ip address. So while I am trying to connect to port 5800 the error reads 5900 on the port. This seams weird.
Do you have any options?
Regards,
Manny

Actually I did a Firmware upgrade and just for the fun of it changed it back to see if it was that and nothing.
As far as the server question, Both computers ar running the server version all the time. I usually connect from any pc via HTTP using the ip address and the port 5800 or 5801 for either pc.
Thanks for your prompt response and I hope you have the answer.

I guess this means your running the latest RC right?
just for sanity check your ports on your computer with this online scanner
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
you can specify the port and if it is RED it means it is open..im sure you know how to open ports but lets start with this... if the ports arent open properly then there isnt any way to get to it from the outside...
can you internally get to each computer with a web server? And it only not work from the outside?
Side note- are you using the new MSloginII for authentication or just password?
I dont remember asking but what firewalls do you have, hardware or software and are they configured to allow these ports open?

I guess I am running on the latest one.
I do have access from the inside even using HTTP on ports 5900 and 5901 I can access one computer or the other just fine.
On the side note I only use password I don't have the MS Login set in my pc.
Now as far as Firewalls I do have both a router which has an internal Firewall but it is the one that has the port forwarding and also I have Norton IS 2005 running on both PCs. But it has been that way since I installed it. I guess I can try to without the Norton but I would not feel comfortable that way.
Thanks again for your help so far. This is a good learning process.

don't forget to allow winvnc (considered as worm from Symantec...) and open port on your Norton IS 2005 from WAN access (port 5900... to 5901...and 5800 to 5801)I have Norton IS 2005 running on both PCs.

Same Problem
I have a laptop at work where the internet access is very limited. Most of the ports are blocked (including 5800 and 5900). I tried to connect with the browser and I get the same behaviour. However, when trying from the host computer (loopback enabled) I managed to connect. IS there anything I can do (configure) to be able to remotelly control a computer on the 8080 port?
I managed to bypass the proxy with a combination of programs (Sockscap and Yourfreedom) and gain access through the Viewer but this is not convinient because I get speed limitations. Or to put it another way. Does the computer I'm working on have to have the Ports 5800 and 5900 opened too?

Hey guys,
As per your suggestions I un installed Norton IS and also went online for the port verification process and the ports are open. I took it to the next level by removing the router out of the equation and connecting directly to the cable modem which I checked online and it does not have any Firewalls or security and I still get the same error.
I am getting frustrated but I have trust in your knowledge and together we will find the answer.
Now as a recap:
1- No router
2- No Norton IS 2005
3- Connected Straight to the modem
4- Checked ports online software. They are open (Red)
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
5- Still get the same error
"Network error: Could not connect to server: XX.XX.XX.XXX:5900" keep in mind that the "XX" are actually my ip address. So while I am trying to connect to port 5800 the error reads 5900 on the port.
Could it be configuration? Nothing has changed but it does not hurt.
Regards,
Manny

Re: Same Problem
Dont hijack someone elses thread!! lol... but short answer is yes it should work for the http viewer on port 8080 on the newest rc.boldozoi wrote:I have a laptop at work where the internet access is very limited. On to the long answer.
In answer - you can use any port you wish to use and as long as you set up your router properly for port forwarding you should be able to do it for either the app or the viewer.
I know the documentation isnt exactly what people would say is great but the basics are -
Router - Port forwarding and firewall settings ensure it doesnt block the port you want to use.
Computer - Port forwarding through Firewall XP SP2 or Commercial product. Ensure this is configured properly or else the port will always be blocked and there isnt any way to connect.
Remote computer trying to view - ENSURE your Corporate firewall isnt blocking your access via 8080 or 80 or 443. Those are more common ports - 8080 for proxy 80 for regular web and 443 for ssl. If those ports dont work that means your network team knows how to "lock you down"
Here's a silly question - are you trying to use the DSM plugin?eroque wrote:Hey guys,

DSM plugin and http doesnt work.
If your ports are open (Meaning they were red) it should work... Have you tried using the app to connect also?
And are you trying this form inside your network or from a totally seperate network connection (neighbors house / dialup ect?) Some routers dont route back to themselves.. Therefore you think it doesnt work but it does..
same problem
I am having the same problem from one particular network. it says Network Error: Could not connect to server: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. My ports are all open on my router correctly and I can access it from all but this network.
When I do pull it up on this computer, it loads the java applet, then pops up with a bar for roughly 2 seconds that has options and disconnect highlighted, the rest are grayed out, then nothing. A blank white screen. On the status bar it says Applet loaded or something and it sits there waiting for me to smash my moniter, burn my hard drive and slit my wrists in frustration. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Network Error:Could not connect to server:XX.XX.XX.XX:5900
Same error for me:
1. UVNC 1.02
2. Port Forwarded 800=>5800 in Router. 900=>5900
3. Firewall Temp Disabled
4. Java (1.5.0) Console Error as below. Why is it trying to connect to 5900?
5. This is a loopback connection trial, loopback enabled
6. DSM Plugin Disabled
7. 5800 5900 std ports in server (Display No. 0)
8. Says "Applet vncviewer started". Goes no further ???
9. Tried the winvnc1p.exe trick. No change.
Any suggestion ?
