Anybody try the MSRC4 Beta?

Post by scovel »

Any feedback on the MSRC4 Beta? I'm considering completely replacing the current MSRC4 with the Beta version, since it is MUCH more secure for long-term use of the same key file. Looking for some feedback.

dsmplugin: MSRC4Plugin_NoReg_Plugin118RC2.dsm, (beta) (viewer + winvnc)

LAN 100Mbyte/s full duplex <--> WLAN 802.11g WPA-PSK TKIP encryption
authentication: vnc pwd 8 caracters (limitation of winvnc 3.3.6 based) OK
authentication: MS-Logon: pwd 14 caracters used, OK
OS: XP SP2 (pro us CPU: PIII-650MHz, RAM=1GB network=LAN
OS: XP SP2 (home fr CPU: CeleronM 1.5GHz, RAM=512Mb) network=WLAN
viewer: 18.06.2005 quickoption=LAN + dsmplugin
winvnc: as service 15.06.2005 + dsmplugin

OK manual viewer direct connection (viewer initiate outgoing connection to winvnc)+auth: VNC
OK, manual winvnc initiate outgoing connection to viewer (no authentication N/A)
----
OK manual viewer direct connection (viewer initiate outgoing connection to winvnc) + auth: MS-logon
OK, manual winvnc initiate outgoing connection to viewer (no authentication N/A)

the only "problem" is when viewer crash in ultra, the winvnc don't disconnect or so late late, like with dsmplugin, winvnc don't know when viewer is lost connection. but is known. I don't worry.

Otherwise, everything OK be happy :-)

If you need help with these plugins, you probably shouldn't be trying BETA software.

Guest,
I personally use it and it works great for me but redge is kinda right. If you are not really familiar with it you may want to stick with the stable versions.

I can attest that Sean's beta 1.1.9.8 verison works great for me. I have used it on all my windows 2003 server and windows XP boxes since it was first released. It will not support multiple connections with the same veiwer. ( you have to open another viewer window and connect to a server ) It really wasnt designed orginally for that type of connection but I am sure that the later versions will :D

It also works on my SC connections as well. I continously thank him for his generousity of time and support of the Ultra VNC project. It is programmers like him ( Rudi, UltraSam, and the rest of the developers that i didnt mention ) that makes the Ultra VNC versions a realitity and the best remote control software around..
