IdleTimeout setting is not explained thoroughly. In particular, you should make clear why it does not work when the client connects with Javaviewer

Hi Bevtech,

I'm a big fan of UVNC and I just want to tell you something which I didnt find when looking on this forum, the registry path for WinXP64. You probably know where to post it if it is usefull.

XP 32bit:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ORL] (client, winvnc.exe -settings)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\] (service, winvnc.exe -defaultsettings)
XP 64bit:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORL\] (service, winvnc -defaultsettings)
Unsure if UVNC 1.0.2 uses HKCU.

settings found in HKCU override the settings found HKLM.

A good step by step for installation can be found online
http://doc.uvnc.net/install/installation.html
(not in doc or pdf form and we know the screen shots are old)
This doesn't exist....

Anything with up to date documents?

Or is this part of the fun of using it?

(Don't you just love open source software docs...) :D

Just prompt for it in your batch file / script and then pass it to the winvnc command.

Hello))I'm still trying to decide if/how I should implement a portable-ized MRU, and whether to start this as its own project on sourceforge or just submit it as a patch to uvnc.
Any suggestions in this regard would still be appreciated.

I'm not shure if this is the right location for my request. If not please move it MOD. :)

I use the Repeater on my pc so far. It works mostly "ok" ... but as I have a Server running at HostEurope it wold be nice to have the repeater there.
I don't have grafik-access there .. only console. Debian6 ... so I can't use the exe-file ... need the perlscrip as it runs without a desktop.

I started the repeater using the command /home/testuser/public_html/cgi-bin/ultravnc_repeater.pl -l /home/testuser/public_html/cgi-bin/repeater.log -p /home/testuser/public_html/cgi-bin/repeater.pid -r -c 5901 -s 5500 & (I changed the DIR ... but use the same parameters)
as I found at the perlscript... this seems to work and the connection is better now! I'm not Shure if there is something to do because I only use mode II ... both ends of my remote is behind NAT
The logfile says the repeater is up an listening... I can connect to It.

BUT

I now need to know how to protect my remote-computer against probing the ID... as I understand there are only ID:1000 to ID:9999 ... not to hard to check... where can I place an additional password ? while connection is established the viewer shows "no password needed" ... so anyone can access my computer if he is able to guess the ID I use ... I tried to place the password at the side of the Server... but it makes no effect. The viewer allways can connect without password.

The answer is to use an encryption plugin. The default for UltraVNC is that "reverse connections" such as those out to a repeater do NOT get password prompts (and VNC passwords aren't secure anyway). No one without the right keys will be able to connect to your machines. (But they can still use your repeater with their own viewers and clients!)

Check out ChunkVNC -- it makes this all pretty straightforward and turns on high encryption automatically.
