Don't close viewer if authentication fails

Post by Guest »

When initiating a remote connection, if you enter an incorrect password the viewer terminates. It would be nice if it instead returned to the VNC Authentication prompt or to the Connection dialog.

If this is by design to prevent brute force password hacking, maybe just allow X number of tries before aborting.

To many things need to be reset......

We tried it to implement without luck.....perhaps something for the winter days .

Is this still in the works? Will this be in the release 1.0? UltraVNC is by far the best flavor out there, and having this small feature will make it that much more better. Thanks.

I quickly threw this together while reading this so it hasn't been stress tested for more than a few minutes but it works OK so far. It's the RC18 viewer since I haven't downloaded the rc20* sources so if you're running rc19+ this is not for you...

Follow the link... it will be removed from the website after a few weeks.

I just download the cvs to add the mods to the RC20.* version code but I think it's a outdated or the checkout missed something, things I know should have been updated are still version 18 and version 19 (file transfer, java viewer & repeater). The rc18 viewer mods was just a quick and dirty concept test to see if it would work but I doubt mods based on old versions will do much good for the current development. I'll give cvs another try later or look at them with the web-cvs to see what the problem is and get a cleaned up version of the modifed sources posted. Right now I'm running short on time so it will be a few days. I need to have time to test the current code anyway to see if there are going to be any weird side effects in other sections that I may have forgotten to account for. Stability doesn't seem to be an issue, it seems very stable but I'd hate to see it popup a connection dialog while in listen mode if the port was probed... (that shouldn't happen but you never know)

Note: I just checked the CVS with web-cvs and at first glance it appears the same as what I checked out so I guess the cvs has not been updated.

Note 2: I think I finally got the cvs problems partially straightened out, best I can tell, the repeater seems to be the only thing still showing an old version but it's not needed so the VNCviewer 20.5 source should be modified in the next few days as I get some free time.

Please report any bugs or lack of bugs so I can fix it or know it doesn't need fixing before modifying v20.5

Here is the RC20.5 vncviewer with the return to connection dialog on failed connection.

Was done pretty quick, ran out of time to test it, have to take off in less than 10 minutes so test it for glitches...

Follow the link below...

Please report bugs or no bugs...

Hmm, any way this could be implemented into v1.0? This experimental version works quite well for me.

This was based on the current cvs. The about says 20.4, version info says 20.5, not sure if 20.6 is in cvs.

Although I try to keep up to date via this forum, the only version of VNC I have installed anywhere is a heavily modified version of UltraVNC RC18 that really is more of an RAdmin clone than VNC. I don't have UltraVNC RC19+ installed so I can't really do a good test of the code yet. I hope to install RC20.6 this weekend or next and will be able to do a full test and try to take a look at any bugs I may have created.

Now returns to conection dialog if cancel is pressed and cosmetic fixed... is updated in the new download.

Should have the recursive file transfers without the zip dlls in next release (this weekend) and file transfers without desktop control/interruption after that if all goes as planned.

Update: Just installed full package of (unmodified) RC20.5/6 and tried to establish a base line to compare future changes to but it still has too many bugs to try to use for the modifications. I'm going to have to temporarily put the changes on hold until the code is more stable.

The downloads have been removed. They were just a quick concept test and will be completed and re-uploaded when the code is finalized.
