new gui - just something between SC and the new style one

Post by linoter »

Hi together

Now, it's time I contribute something to this community and such a great software (Thanks to Rudi. Great job!).
I really like the style of the new server gui. But it doesn't contain the features I need.
Therefore, I decided to revise the new gui and combine it with the features of the SC gui.
The result you can see in the following snapshot.
Image
Features:
- List with old style config (helpdesk.txt includes HOST entries)
- space for your own logo
- Info Button (disappears without the WEBPAGE entry in helpdesk.txt)
- new style background
- allows the same parameter settings for PHW as the new gui (e.g. password, proxy)
- window title is setable (viewable at the task bar)

To build up this gui you can execute the create.bat and you'll find the EXE in the server folder (PcHelpWare_server.exe).

Downlaod: datcom_gui.zip

Enjoy PHW ;-)

For simple one-listener no-repeater direct-connection SC use I have an updated other package here:
http://jthz.com/puter/software/uvnc/

Unpack the zipped folder.

Then read the "! Read Me First" txt before use,
it has all necessary installation instructions.

This includes all the latest files needed for simple
direct-connection one listener singleclick remote support
without repeater, and using all the needed PcHelpWare files.

Packaged for the UltraVNC community.

Hope some will find a use for it.
The Read Me First text is pretty straight forward and newbie proof.. ;-)

I love your interface, but I seem to be having a problem because the old SC generated a scroll bar showing users that were below(I have over 15 users listed in SC) and now in the new GUI the scroll bar does not show up. Any ideas on what could be going on or if it even supports this feature?

Love the new GUI, however I'm having an issue as well.

When I create the GUI, the "quit" button always displays one character less than what is in the helpdesk file.

E.g.

[TEXTCLOSEBUTTON]
End

Displays as En

[TEXTCLOSEBUTTON]
Quit

Displays as Qui

Any ideas as to what could be happening?

Thanks for your help.

I know. Append an empty line at the end and it will work...

Did anyone figure out if we can get scrollbars on the GUI?

I have a number of SC installations that use numerous entries.
This interface looks great but it can't be used unless you have 9 HOST entries or less.

Thanks!

I could not get my old SC Helpdesk.txt (multiple hosts entry) to work with PCW....until I found this post.

http://pchelpware.com/pchelpware/download/index.html
1.0 Zip contains:
PCHelpware.exe 53KB 1/2/2007 1:08am <== this files does not pickup the helpdesk.txt properly(?)

Downloaded : datcom_gui.zip (Steven's customizations on this post)
PCHelpware.exe 28KB 1/18/2007 8:05am <=== works OK

This seemed to do the trick.... helpdesk.txt is processed and displays properly.

Anyone see this?

thanks

Brian,

I also got Steven's datcom_gui.zip and it REALLY helped!

However, I have more than 9 entries in my helpdesk.txt.
On SC, scrollbars were displayed allowing you to have (I believe) up to 21 or 22 HOST entries (before it got confused).

On PCHW with datcom_gui you get 9 entries.
The program allows more entries and you can use your arrows to scroll down past the bottom of the window but you cannot see what you are selecting.

Ideally there'd be a way to add scrollbars so we can use as many entries as we'd like.

Have you tried the SC GUI from the download page of PCHelpware.
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/download/index.html
It allows a list but I don't know what the max is.

Yes, we've been using SC and we LOVE it!
Unfortunately, SC doesn't work with Vista so we're trying to transition to PCHW and are running into these issues.

Thanks!

This is a SC GUI to use with PCHelpware.

Looks like SC but uses Pchelpware.

I'd put money on him having used ResourceHacker - http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

richb - Thanks for the suggestion. Since posting that message, I've read through some other posts and found the reference to Resource Hacker. I've downloaded it and tried it, to no avail. I posted a separate question on this in the forum.

I've since been able to amend the layout of the the server applet by using Resource Hacker to amend the PcHelpware.exe file located in the create_server folder.

Great Job!

This little pack makes it even more fun to use. My only issue is when the new server created icon doesn't work on Vista but it works fine on XP. Is there going to be a new workaround for this?

Hey Burak

Sorry, but I can't do anything about this. The problem lays not in the gui but in the 1SCDLL.dll. I can reproduce this error on a Windows 2003 Server. (look also at this thread: [topic=9340][/topic]) Unfortunately, I have no access to the source code of this dll. However, I hope Rudi will release a new version soon because there are initializing problems in Windows Vista as well...

Looking forward for a new dll version :-D

Great work all!

I'd like a GUI similar to sure's, but without the list of viewers.

Is it possible to make the 'Connect' button simply connect to the 1st (and only) [HOST] defined in helpdesk.txt?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Good news.

I just published a new version of this gui. Now it's possible to set a default support that is selected from the beginning.
To do so you can insert following rows into helpdesk.txt:

Code: Select all

[DEFAULTHOST]
2
The number starts from 0 (first entry).

To show you an example I changed the provided helpdesk.txt in the downloadable archive.
If you don't wish a default selection just delete the two lines.

Have a lot of fun...

I love this gui, just what I have been looking for. Super work!!!

I have been tweeking the helpdesk file to fit my needs and so on but i have stumpled onto a problem.

[HOST]
Supporter 2
-connect 192.168.30.11:5500 -id 1010 -proxy -passwd 81DC9BDB52D04DC20036DBD8313ED055

The password? As fare as i have understood the password is encrypted but i need to set some kind of password so I can connect with my PChelpware tool. I need to have matching settings in my pchelpware so the two can connect. It looks like the password has been MD5 encrypted or something so the solution must be to take ones password and encrypte it and put it in the helpdeks file and then make sure to use the same password in the pchelpware.... but im not sure this is correct?

Allso what does the -proxy do? does it have something to do with the ID filed or?

Dear linoter,

The link for downloading the zip from your original post is not working. Would you mind letting us know where we can get it?

Thanks a million

Nice project.

A few comments.
1. A drop shadow would really improve it's looks. This is usually fairly easy to add depending on the language you've written it in.
2. The background image is stretched across the form, could the form size instead be based on the size of the image?

Cheers
Chris :-)
